The UC/ANL TeraGrid Cluster may be accessed through two standard authentication methods:
- OpenSSH v2 public/private keys
- Grid credentials
These instructions address OpenSSH keys because they are new to many.
Use of grid credentials will continue as previously advertised.
A detailed Authentication Policy statement covering key management
issues, ssh passphrases, and key strengths is available
here.
SSH v2 Key Creation and Usage Guidelines are also available
here. Please review these
document and make sure that the credentials you use to access UC/ANL
TeraGrid resources comply with the stated policies and guidelines.
Instructions:
-
Generate an SSH version 2 public/private key pair. The key pair must use a
passphrase of sufficient integrity and follow the guidelines published in our
SSHv2 Key Guidelines.
-
Send your public key and contact phone number to help@teragrid.org
indicating that you wish to use it to access UC/ANL TeraGrid resources.
They will be forwarded to our attention.
We may contact you by telephone to validate that the credentials came from you.
-
If you use a client such as PuTTY or SecureCRT you must translate your ssh-key
into the OpenSSH format before submitting the public key to our attention.
-
We require your private key to be properly managed as described in our
Authentication Policy.
